The BRIT Hits the Fan
The BRIT awards have just lobbed a major curveball at the general public by announcing their nominations for the 2015, which include a bunch of artists not hugely commercially successful, not often played on radio and not signed to major labels. Of course, this isn’t really the case with Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and George Ezra leading the charge of the light ballad brigade.
The above will politely battle it out for British Male, British Single and Album of the Year awards, with other nominated artists including FKA Twigs (for British Solo female), Alt J and Royal Blood (Best British Group, with Royal Blood also nominated for Breakthrough), Chvrches (British Breakthrough Act), Beyonce and St Vincent (International Solo Female), Paulo Nutini (British Solo Male), Damon Albarn (same) and The War on Drugs (International Group).
The resonating sound of the backslap will occur at a sacrificial ceremony at the O2 in London on 25th February, broadcast exclusively on ITV and hosted by Ant and Dec with the awards designed by Tracey Emin. Welcome to 2015.
Organisers have promised a smooth running professional event with none of last year’s microphone dropping rock n roll abandon.
High Priest and Co-President of Columbia Records Mark Terry commented: “I’m delighted that Columbia is leading the charge with 12 BRITs nominations this year, it’s been a fantastic year for the label and our artists, both domestic and international. I’d like to congratulate our biggest homegrown artists George Ezra, Calvin Harris and Mark Ronson. We have all worked incredibly hard to deliver some of the biggest and best records of the year, so it’s rewarding for this to be recognised”.
