TIPPER OF THE WEEK: CHRIS LOVETT
We continue to shine the spotlight the biggest and best emerging acts from across the UK. Each Monday, we ask one of our esteemed tippers to select five of their hottest tips to be featured on the site throughout the week.
Next up we have Chris Lovett, curator and co-founder of Souterrain. Discover some of the best new artists and bands around right now in his tips below.
LATIR
North Londoner Latir may have just dropped his finest piece to date. Produced by Danny George, this ballad is as emotional as it gets and he mentioned recently on twitter that both were pretty overwhelmed with the content as Latir poured his heart out into this track. This is the second song from his newest project following his debut Adolescence EP. A highly respected artist within the London emerging artist community, Latir has also collaborated a number of times with long time friend, and Britain’s Got Talent winner, Tokio Myers. His spectrum reaches many genres but this probably his finest solo effort to date.
BLACK PALMS
What an absolute monster of a debut from London’s Black Palms, who describe themselves as playing soulful, sexy, epic rock music. I cant really argue with that to be honest. They have a number of shows in the capital coming up over the next few weeks and if you’re up for an up close and personal face melt session, go and check them out. I am excited to hear what follows this beast of a debut.
SIMON JEFFERIS
A breath of fresh air discovery, Brixton’s SJ quit his 9-5 to focus on making the jazzy hip hip music he always loved. His debut EP ‘Pockets’ is well worth a listen if you are a fan of artists influenced by producers like J Dilla and Nujabes. His collaborations with Deepmatter label mates Natty Reeves and Abhi The Nomad are goldust and a go to artist for those chilled out instrumental commutes when all around you is chaos.
ADMB
Another producer worth having in your instrumental back pocket. Countless features on compilations by chilled hip hop influencers Mellow Orange and Chillhop, ADMB has a number of pieces and mixes available to really get immersed in.
SAM WILLS
The first track from the new ‘Walking Underwater’ EP from Hastings own Sam Wills. I cannot fault any releases from this guy, they have all been of an incredibly high standard as has his collaboration choices with Tom Misch, Pablo Nouvelle, Disclosure, Alix Perez and Moods. Sam is an artist that makes you stop and take notice with his super cool delivery and production. Surely now its just a matter of time before he becomes one of the go to UK future soul / R&B movement figures.
