TRUST FUND

Trust Fund‘s debut album No One’s Coming For Us, released right at the start of the year, has been one of the highlights of 2015 so far for me. It didn’t come as a major surprise how great it was, given the gut-wrenching emotional force of his previous releases. It did, however, represent new territory in that for pretty much the first time his songs were overlaid with the occasional burst of visceral grungy riffing. The whole thing made for a hugely powerful Waxahatchee-esque experience.

Dreams, the first new Trust Fund music since No One’s Coming For Us, sees protagonist Ellis Jones stepping out of his bedroom to record with brilliantly ubiquitous Hookworm MJ. Jones is joined on vocal duties by former Joanna Gruesome singer Alanna McArdle, forming something of a DIY dream line-up, and the result is (entirely predictably) wonderful. It’s a deceptively catchy summer pop song, irresistibly bouncy and compeltely and utterly addictive. It’s further proof that Trust Fund is one of the greatest artists we have in this country and if you haven’t yet discovered his music, then you really should set about that rectifying that.
