YOWL

Yet another band to come out of the prolific South London scene, five-piece YOWL recently followed up last year’s debut EP Before The Sleep Sets In with new single ‘My Headache Likes to Speak’.

The group describe the track as being about “that anxiety that comes from the cocktail of social pressures and everything surrounding the need to socialise with people, fearing humiliation, and a desire for genuine connection”.

If you hadn’t already guessed from that: it’s not upbeat, but it’s worth taking the time for. Guitar that wouldn’t be out of place on an Interpol record leads into drawling, ominous vocals that fit the music perfectly and can do both baritone disengagement and theatrical snarling. YOWL have something to say and demand to be heard – and they’re touring in October if you fancy seeing them in person.
