TIPPER OF THE WEEK: JAKE CROSSLAND
This week we continue our latest feature on the Tipping Point, spotlighting the biggest and best emerging acts from across the UK. Each Monday, we ask one of our esteemed tippers to select five of their hottest tips to be featured on the site throughout the week.
Next up we’ve got Jake Crossland, writer at Too Many Blogs and presenter on Amazing Radio. Delve into his top picks below!
INLAND TAIPAN
The sometimes-solo, sometimes-not project of Aisling Taylor based in Manchester, Inland Taipan unleash storms of fury and feedback with each bitter track. Taylor’s lofty voice is beguiling, the guitars cyclic and scuzzy. Dangerous and delicious in equal measures, it’s captivating and hypnotic. Yes please.
PORRIDGE RADIO
2019 is the year of the Porridge. They’re furious and inelegant and delicate and wrestle pop music out of the darkest of places. They’re holding onto their DIY roots and making the industry work for them rather than the other way round, which is extra exciting to watch. Also, Dana Margolin is the nicest and most honest person in the world and their label (Memorials of Distinction) is the best. I cannot say a bad thing about the band.

KAPUTT
There’s 6 of them and they make wiry and tight-knit, surfy (but not really) post-punk which is the best kind. Guitars and saxophone weave in and out of each other and somehow never get tangled whilst they shout over the top. It’s like the Cramps meets DUDS, Omni and Devo. I have never wanted to dance so much but been so confused about how to go about doing it. They had me mouth-open and rooted to the spot in glee.
404
The Guild recently signed to Dirty Hit for their debut EP and finally returned live, alongside releasing killer new single ‘Fearful’. Their live shows are terrifying and exhilarating, and their music flips between horror-show sample rap and hook driven harmonies courtesy of Silvertongue. They deserve to be massive and if they’re not, I’ll blame the system. Truly something special.
