WeCreate Artists Announced

Tipping Point and Generator are thrilled to announce the 10 emerging musicians starting our shiny new WeCreate Songwriting and Talent Development program. WeCreate aims to address gender imbalance in the music industry, specifically in the North East of England, through providing opportunities for female and female-identifying musicians.

Georgia Turnbull

Georgia is a singer songwriter who started out her solo career eight years ago. Since then she has performed in bands and with accompaniment. She is currently studying Community Music at the Sage and is going into the final year of the BA program.

“I would love to develop my solo project, and I would like to be involved in creating projects like this myself in the future. The opportunity to network with other songwriters is really inspiring, to work towards collaboration and to discover different music scenes that the artists are involved in.”

Inês Gonçalves

Inês is a music student on the Jazz degree taught at The Sage Gateshead. She is originally from Portugal, and because of this her music draws a lot of influence from latin, jazz and bossa nova. As well as singing she is also a pianist with some classical training. Recently she has played with original projects at the Gateshead International Jazz Festival and at the Newcastle Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music.

“I would like to use this course to bring my influences together and help me create music that’s accessible to an English audience.”

Sarah Connolly

Sarah Connolly is a 22 year old singer songwriter who has recently finished her music degree and is hoping to further her career in the industry. Using guitar as her main instrument she takes inspiration from artists such as Billie Marten and Lucy Rose when writing songs.

Annie Griffiths

Annie is a solo singer songwriter from Leeds who has recently been making her way onto the Newcastle music scene. Since releasing her debut album last year, Annie is now working towards making a collaborative album – one that aims to reflect a thought provoking take on pop culture and female representation within the industry.

Rachael Whittle

Rachael is a North East based singer and guitarist currently fronting the alternative rock band Ilser. Rachael grew up in rural Northumberland and began playing guitar from the age of fourteen. She became captivated by music, this lead to her studying it at Newcastle College. Following this she became interested in Music Production and went on to study at Newcastle University and Southampton Solent University.

Although she has been performing as a guitar player for many years, it wasn’t until her final year of studying that she began to sing and write songs. In 2014 Rachael formed the alternative rock band Ilser and since then the band has made waves on account of their explosive live performance, unique/brooding recorded content and strong work ethic.

Performing alongside a range of highly coveted national/international acts, the band boast a wealth of live experience and radio play from the likes of the BBC and accolades from genre tastemakers including Louder Than War, Independent Music News and Punktastic.

Rachael is currently in the process of writing for a solo project. Her off-kilter guitar style and brooding ethereal melodies which make Ilser so unique will be ever present in her solo work. However there will be a stronger focus on her abilities as a vocalist.

Laura Stutter Garcia (aka Late Girl)

Late is her personal reaction to established time. Girl appropriates the stereotype. A combination of classical composition techniques, warping of samples and elements of found sound which are conveyed into experimental electronic beat music. Submerging written or sung stories, Late Girl externalises the overload of information and cultural assumptions with a personal take and irreverent approach.
Some of the people she has played with are Vital Idles, Cru Servers, GGallan Partridge or Competition. NARC Magazine – ‘scuzzy samples and more loops than a tin of spaghetti hoops. Sink into this immersive electro-acoustic experience for a futuristic sonic surprise’

Chloe Nattrass

With far more stories to tell than a 20 year old should have, British singer/songwriter Chloe Nattrass brings forth her experiences through the wonders of pop music. Since teaching herself guitar at the age of 14, Nattrass has written over one hundred songs, musical anecdotes that give an insight into her experiences as an individual growing up.

After a gig at Newcastle’s 02 Academy, the songwriter was described by Capital Radio’s JoJo, Matt and Borg as a ‘natural talent that brought the entire place to life.’ Since then, Nattrass has gone on to release two singles, her first ‘Not So Pretty Reckless’ being crowned Track of the Week by BBC Tees Introducing. Her latest single, ‘Barcelona’, is available now on all major digital retailers.

Annabel Pattinson

Annabel Pattinson is a 24-year-old acoustic singer songwriter from Newcastle. She has been writing music and playing guitar from a young age. She released her first single PYSCHO, which she launched at the 02 academy Newcastle with her band.

“My writing is like my own diary. I always write about my own experiences or things I feel that are close to me. I love performing my original material.”

Indre Geigaite

Indre, also known as Indy, recently came to study jazz, popular and commercial music in Newcastle. She has already played in 3 bands, and has performed at some the biggest North East venues, including Sage Gateshead, 02 Academy, The Cluny. She plays piano, sings and uses digital programs to produce music.  “I’m really happy to join WeCreate! I’ve always been in love with music.”

Aimee Lambert

Aimee as an emerging singer-songwriter from East Boldon, near Newcastle. Her original song “Need You” has featured as demo of the week in Narc magazine. Need Music said that “Aimee’s voice is a cocktail of elements, from the sweet innocence of Birdy with a hint of Benjamin Francis Leftwich.” An accomplished songwriter, Aimee describes her style as acoustic with a hint of jazz and pop.

Keep an ear out for performance dates for the music created over the duration of this program.
