TIPPER OF THE WEEK: JAMES DAY-COCKING
This week we continue our latest feature on the Tipping Point, spotlighting the biggest and best emerging acts from across the UK. Each Monday, we ask one of our esteemed tippers to select five of their hottest tips to be featured on the site throughout the week.
Next up we’ve got James Day-Cocking, national radio plugger at Alan James PR for the likes of Alt-J, Easy Life, The Magic Gang and Sports Team. In his spare time, James is the co-founder/director of Knee Deep Festival in Cornwall – who over the past 6 years have welcomed the likes of Wolf Alice, Kate Tempest, Loyle Carner, Whitney and Willy Mason.
Knee Deep Festival takes place 30th-31st August at their secret site near Saltwash, Cornwall and we’d recommend you get yourself down there for it – more info here.
In the meantime, take a look through James’ tips below!
DO NOTHING
A witty and well-thought indie-outfit from Nottingham who keep you on your toes with every new release. They’ve a knack for putting out 1-listen records which you then find yourself giving another 5/6 spins immediately afterwards (I’m guilty of this).
SHUNAJI
With her infectious brand of hip-hop, soul and jazz; Shunaji quickly caught the ears of Gilles Peterson who tipped her as one of his Future Bubblers early on. At KD, we’re equally hooked and very much looking forward to what she does this year.
HARVEY CAUSON
Played a blinder of a set at KD last year – his performance of new single ‘London Stock’ became a real festival highlight. The Bristol-based newcomer boasts an incredible voice, sharp production and, music aside, is an all-round good egg. It feels like 2019 is going to be very good to Harvey.
THE INTERGALACTIC REPUBLIC OF KONGO
I’d been tipped about an amazing live band called ‘IROK’ a good few times before I finally put two-and-two together and managed to catch theses guys live in Brixton – it’s safe to say that they lived up to the hype. First official release ‘I Don’t Need’ is fairly subdued in comparison to their raucous live offering but gives you a fairly good idea as to just why everyone (myself included) are getting so excited about them.
CELESTE
Not the most underground tip this one as she’s already signed to a major, but if I had to put my money on anyone going stratospheric in the next year then it’s her!
