TIPPER OF THE WEEK: KARLA HARRIS
This week we continue our latest feature on the Tipping Point, spotlighting the biggest and best emerging acts from across the UK. Each Monday, we ask one of our esteemed tippers to select five of their hottest tips to be featured on the site throughout the week.
Next up we’ve got Karla Harris, founder/editor of When The Horn Blows music blog and physical magazine. Take a look through Karla’s tips below!
THE WILD STATE
Brighton based three-piece The Wild State recently released their second single, ‘Youth’, a beautiful blend of orchestral indie rock. ‘With their debut album looking to drop in May and produced by Peter Katis (The National, Frightened Rabbit, Interpol) – expect lots more loveliness to come.
THE FRANKLYS
London based garage rock outfit The Franklys touch upon a raw riot grrrl ethos without losing their accessible edge. New single, ‘Illusions’ is an energetic and attitude-infused cut taken from their upcoming, socio-politically themed EP, ‘Framed’. The EP dropped earlier this month and they’re currently on tour across Europe.
ARCTIC LAKE
With two minimal and brooding EPs already under the belt, London based three-piece Arctic Lake, showcase a bolder progression of sound on new single, ‘Holding On’. This is scintillating sophisticated pop, packaged to tap into its listeners emotions. Arctic Lake will be hitting the live scene on a run of tour dates during October.
GRACEY
Brighton based GRACEY’s been spending her time songwriting for some big names in pop. GRACEY’s recently released her intimate debut single, ‘Different Things’, a subtly produced song that shows off her impassioned, soulful vocal and heartfelt lyricism. An emotional and remarkable entrance from an artist who should definitely be on your radar.
RHYS LEWIS
I’m a big fan of Dermot Kennedy and got introduced to Rhys Lewis’s music through Spotify picking him out as a similar artist I might like. Sometimes it gets it wrong but not this time!. New single, ‘End Like This’ is the lead single from Rhys’ next EP, Expect passionate vocals, touching lyrics and affecting, organic, instrumentation.
