Chad Male‘s ‘Time‘ begins with a Funk/R&B-inspired intro: a simple breakbeat is punctuated by an equally simple bassline. At the point where this is joined by Male’s effortlessly fresh-sounding vocal the track feels like a great British take on R&B, but on reaching the chorus things get a little more complex. Spurred on by a beautiful yet simple piano part, it already feels like an Indie-Pop classic.

Bridged by that breakbeat, the two styles blend seamlessly and ‘Time’ nestles perfectly between the two genres. Lyrically, Male demonstrates some real songwriting talent: his well-articulated introspection coupled with a catchy hook really is a winning formula.
