FLAMINGODS
South Coast types Art is Hard have been one of my favourite labels for a while, consistently releasing some seriously interesting records. So it was pretty much guaranteed that the first album they put out was going to involve a pretty awesome band. And so it has proved with Flamingods. Their debut long-player ‘Sun’ will be out on January 21st, and judging by lead single ‘Queso’ which features former Ponytail guitarist Dustin Wong, it’s going to be a total thrill ride.
‘Queso’ hits the sweet spot between experimentalism and catchiness. It’s inventive, boundary-pushing pop; utterly bonkers but thoroughly invigorating. It certainly gives you the impression that they’re worth catching live, so it’s just as well that they’re touring in support of the release. Some Northern dates are apparently still due to be added, but confirmed dates include January 17th at Brighton Green Door Store, January 18th at The Shacklewell Arms in London, January 19th at Club Gwdihw in Cardiff and January 22nd at Leeds Wharf Chambers.
