MAT HUNSLEY

Some people never forget a face. Others are useless with names. I tend to forget both, but one thing I always remember, is a voice.

When I heard today’s tip, I knew it wasn’t the first time. Back in November last year, I saw a young lad and his guitar support Seafret at The Cluny in Newcastle. That young lad was Mat Hunsley, an accomplished songwriter following the footsteps of fellow Northerners The Lake Poets and Tessera Skies.

His stories were rich in frank lyricism, chronicling the changing world around him, and his latest single ‘Dropping’ is no different. Peppered with social commentary and relatable expressions of self-assurance, it’s a real coming of age track. Even those with the worst memories won’t forget Mat’s name in a hurry.
