NIGHT FLOWERS

Though the sun is shining and we edge closer to the tantalising prospect of summer, today’s tip, courtesy of London-via-Humberside five-piece Night Flowers, is more shadowy, wistful dream world than stroll on the beach. Taken from their self-titled debut EP, ‘Bound’ is an utterly hypnotic sonic delight that has the power to transport the listener to another dimension.

While their 2013 debut release ‘Single Beds’ was a C86 style jangling indie-pop song in the vein of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart or Veronica Falls, Bound sees Night Flowers up the ante by swapping the saccharine stylings for shoegaze nostalgia. The dreamy pop sensibilities are still present, but Night Flowers are now stepping into loftier territory with surging guitars and haunting vocal harmonies. With a beautifully cinematic video to match, Bound positively aches with a sombre sense of longing and escape.
