SAMANTHA DURNAN

Fresh from Radio 1 play, Middlesbrough born singer songwriter Samantha Durnan has been garnering a bit of well-deserved buzz of late. As well as the recent Radio 1 air time, she’s also been played on BBC 6 Music and Amazing Radio, all the while winning over support with her impressive voice with support slots for the likes of Ed Sheeran and Beverly Knight. It all began at the tender age of 7, when Durnan first picked up a guitar, a year later she had penned her first track and a lot has happened since those tentative early steps into the music business. In 2009, Samantha released her first acoustic album ‘Moving On’, before following it up with her second album ‘In The Beginning.’

Now, she returns with the aforementioned ‘Through The Darkness’, a first hint at new material following her recent management deal. Packed full of soaring melodies, ‘Through The Darkness’ is a promising slice of atmospheric pop that should have Ellie Goulding quaking in her little boots. A beautifully balanced ballad built around Durnan’s powerful, commanding vocals and delicate strokes of piano keys. It’s her voice that really shines throughout; delivering a unique and striking vocal performance in a track that feels in parts so wonderfully mature yet intimately fragile.
