SILENT SLEEP

Colouring books; we all loved them when we were kids. It was a struggle to keep our scrawl inside the lines, though. Pirates, princesses and plenty of other fantasy characters all felt the wrath of our Crayolas as we tore the books to pieces with our bonkers creativity.

Keeping firmly inside his laidback indie-pop lines, though, is Christopher McIntosh (aka Silent Sleep) with the exquisite acoustic-ballad-cum-mariachi-stomp “You Can Colour Me In”, the first track to be lifted from his debut album, Walk Me To The Sea. Opening with the lightest of acoustic guitars, “You Can Colour Me In” builds to a warm crescendo of Tex-Mex trumpets and churchy backing vocals. A touching love song that Sir Paul could’ve penned for Linda in the early seventies, it’s a delightfully wide-eyed slice of heartfelt pop.

Former singer and songwriter for respected Liverpool outfits 28 Costumes and Hallo… I Love You, McIntosh upped sticks to Berlin, David Bowie-style, to write the songs that make up his first album as a solo artist. Back home in Liverpool, he’s making bold strides to establish himself as one of the city’s brightest talents. A gifted songwriter blessed with his hometown’s melodic vigour, McIntosh delivers enthralling acoustica that could rival anyone.
