TIGER LION

Tiger Lion is Clémentine Blue. She quotes St. Vincent on her facebook page, which after hearing the vocal-pitched intro to ‘Under Water’, should surprise no one. Like Annie Clark’s St. Vincent, Tiger Lion is an image controlled with colour, costume and cloth.

I try to avoid “x meets y” comparisons, but if Debbie Harry sang for The Dodos, you would be fairly close to the Tiger Lion sound. Breathy vocals meet the instruments of world music. Although the feel of the song is decidedly western and contemporary, the alternative percussion and lack of a traditional drum kit give an exotic slant to match both the artist’s name and the ‘Under Water’ music video, which is full of luxurious fabrics and exotic tropes.
