808INK

Listening to 808INK’s newest track, Lat Pull Down, I am instantly transported to a world where N.W.A stayed together for many years, and eventually created a track with Kendrick Lamar. It is a wistful fantasy, but one which seems to have come true here.

The group mix aggressive commentary of modern life with smooth beats straight from the mind of producer 808Charmer. The man behind the lyrics, Mumblez Black Ink, shoots straight and forces you to listen to the group’s perspective on life.

The music isn’t quite rap, however; it isn’t grime; the only real certainty here is that this is straight up hip-hop. In today’s world, the hip-hop scene seems to have lost its meaning somewhat, but 808INK have found it again, and are showing the rest of the scene just how to do it properly. Not to say there isn’t a place for that, but 808INK are pure.

This song in particular is a brilliant mix of sentimental messages from the group’s experiences and a beat which really makes you feel like the coolest guy in the world. It’s an absolute must in any “feeling awesome” playlist, and is a good omen for what is to come.
