BELGRAVE
Today’s tip is a dark trip into anger and jealousy, emotions that we all go through. Writing these dark themes into pop music seems like the impossible task, but clearly not for new London popstar in the making Belgrave.
“Playing Games” is the kind of track which makes big labels perk up interest. This guy is still a free agent on the music scene but perhaps not for long after his sublime ability to write hooks. The song, and his sound lies somewhere in the middle of Bastille and Hurts, with an equal ability to use synths to build up emotion and tension whilst crafting pure pop.
It’s the second track we’ve had from Belgrave, after June’s “Is Love Enough”. With the singer teasing on line that he’s headed back into the studio soon, perhaps we can expect more of Belgrave’s brooding ballads before the close of the year.
