HUDSON SCOTT
Summer may be drawing lazily to a close but the evenings are still light, the sun is still warm and there are laidback and happy tunes aplenty to be enjoyed. Not least in the form of the latest offering from Oxford’s fast rising groovemeister Hudson Scott.
Having started out as part of the live set-up for the likes of Foals and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Scott has stepped out on his own. In so doing he won immediate support and love for his debut Clay EP, the title track of which has a delicious old-school Jackson 5 funk feel to it
His latest track, ‘Get Down’, which according to Scott is about the ‘thrill of the chase’ when trying to woo that special someone, is dripping with chilled out frivolity. The smooth vocals and melting synth sounds are all pina-coladas and flirting by the pool.
There’s a spark of sexual tension in the Nile Rodgers-esque guitar line and the bottle-drummed rhythm skips and dances with excitement as the chase goes on. The whole thing is like a dream, happy, warm and wonderful. Like the soundtrack to that glorious holiday evening that went on until sunrise.
Smooth and sultry, it’s a perfect accompaniment to the waning summer evenings and the memory of those beach based fun and frolics that you hoped would never end.
