INDIAN QUEENS
Born, raised and based in London’s East End this three piece spend their lives battling through crowds of bearded cereal vendors while dodging Peruvian street food trucks in order to get to rehearsals. That said, there is obviously more to the area than just craft beer swilling try-hards as Indian Queens are already watching the ink dry on a deal with the highly influential Bella Union label.
‘Us Against The World’ has been premiered in the form of a grainy collage of images shot around the band’s hometown. Gritty, lo-fi and beautiful, the images and the tune are a perfect match.
Indian Queens bring electronic atmospherics and overdriven indie guitars over a shuffling groove in the tried and tested quiet-loud-quiet- loud format. That’s no bad thing. Jennifer O’Neil’s husky and dreamy vocal tones provide the perfect foil for the epic swirling soundbed beneath. If Liz Phair fronted an early incarnation of Smashing Pumpkins produced by Massive Attack it might sound a little bit like Indian Queen’s aural vibes. Or maybe that’s just the artisanal gin talking.
