LXURY
We’re due a speed garage revival and today’s tip, ‘Company’ from Lxury (a.k.a. Croydon-based producer Andy Smith), might just be the first hint of it. There’s the obligatory pin-sharp percussion, four-to-the-floor kick drum, and heavily processed vocal. Of course this is 2014, not 1994, so things are considerably smoother and suaver this time around – this sounds less like something that would be played in a grubby warehouse, and more like something that would grace the oiled deck of a superyacht, easing beautiful people into gentle Mediterranean euphoria over sunglasses and sangria.
‘Company’ treads the fine line between simple, repetitive house, and something a little more ‘songwriterly’. There’s only the one vocal refrain, but it’s ambiguous enough to work over the track’s six minutes, and subtle lead lines work their way in and out of one’s consciousness. A delicate yet punchy hors d’oeuvres – perhaps wasabi mackerel sashimi – which hints at great things to come from Lxury. And with a multi-year deal with Imagem Music UK in the bag, it’s likely that that’s exactly what we’re going to get.
