PLAZA
Plaza are certainly a band on the rise. Previous releases ‘Totem’ and ‘Blood Orange’ have earned them support from the likes of Huw Stephens on Radio 1, DIY, Clash and The Music Ninja, and now their third release ‘Youth’ is set to propel them even higher.
Despite being an emerging artist, their intelligent songwriting style smacks of experience and professional know-how. Slow building, ominous and atmospheric through the verses, Plaza gradually crank the tension under lyrics ‘I can feel it in my bones, I’ll come up on my own’, before crashing cathartically into a seriously heavyweight chorus. And, not only is this track expertly put together, but it also packs some of the catchiest vocal melodies you’ll hear this year.
Earworm is an understatement – this is a track which will embed itself under your skin and practically live there. You’ll find yourself singing it in the shower, on the bus, and probably even in your sleep.
Having previously played shows alongside the likes of Ratboy and High Tyde, and about to embark on a UK tour with Gengahr, this band of cheeky gents from Hartlepool are going from strength to strength. Catch ’em on their way up.
