SHALLOWS
Kicking off with a Killers esque intro, ‘Pale‘ by Liverpool band Shallows touches on many alt-indie cornerstones whilst retaining it’s own unique character. Combining reverb-drenched lead guitar lines with tasteful synth noise the band manage to craft an ethereal sound which underpins lead-singer Tom Murray‘s lead vocals. Floaty organs decorate a bridge section that segues into one of the biggest and most infectious choruses I’ve heard in ages. It had me singing along to the drawn out syllables awkwardly loudly (sorry, flatmates) even though I couldn’t quite pick out the lyrics. That’s a good sign, trust me.
Hailing from the North West hotbed on Merseyside, Shallows prove that the Liverpool band-carousel is as healthy as ever, lending their post-indie sounds to the already thriving psych and retro infused scene. Signing to the same management company that has worked with Mew, Pixies and The Fratellis, these dapper scoundrels seem to have the pedigree to really make an impact.
Catch them live-in-the-flesh at The Old Blue Last in the big smoke on August 5th.
