THE BIG MOON

All female  garage-rock groups are pretty in vogue at the moment, but with good reason, as it is most definitely a genre that is thriving internationally. The likes of Ex Hex and Hinds are doing it for the USA and Spain, so it’s great to have The Big Moon represent our little island, and represent it very very well.

Things seem to have gone from 0 to 100 for this band and they are currently riding a huge and potentially dangerous wave of hype, yet all signs seem to point towards them being able to shoot through the end of the tunnel on their own terms.

‘The Road’ is a gem of a song, featuring an appealing familiarity whilst also pushing forwards fresh and inventive ideas. It’s a simple song in some ways, but this does not distract from the tasteful and artistic way more complex ideas are woven together too. The production and pacing as well are totally on point; the slow lackadaisical start evolves into bubbling excitement, fueled by Queens of the Stone age via Arctic Monkeys inspired guitar fuzz.

One of the key reasons The Big Moon seem to be going places, and fast, is their ability to appeal to a broad range of people without compromising their own artistic vision, and ‘The Road‘ is no different. A fun and musically mature slice of garage-pop-rock.
