TWIN SUN

Jen Stearnes’ vocals are usually accompanied by the explosive guitar pop of North London five-piece Saltwater Sun.  Reading production duo Twin Sun, however, have other ideas.

While the hook’s opening line may be totally nonsensical, ‘Lilac Light’ really does seem to occupy “the space where the Summer meets the sky”; immediately recalling sunset festival sets and hazy beach parties.

Rhythmically, it’s classic Four-to-the-floor from start to finish, with melodic synth arpeggios reminiscent of Giorgio Moroder.  Between hooks, is an interesting sparsity; a lighter, more accessible version of the kind you might find on an early Crystal Castles album.

Originally gaining traction with their Disco-inflected edits of tracks by Fleetwood Mac, Can, Michael Jackson and Sufjan Stevens, the duo have earned support from the likes of Amazing Radio and Radio 1’s Huw Stephens.  Don’t be surprised to see their name popping up on bills left right and centre this year.
