WHEN I AM KING

Today’s tip comes from Liverpudlian four-piece When I Am King with their debut single ‘Something Inside’ showcasing the band’s sophisticated and intensely smooth R&B sound.

Frontman Joe Hazlitt’s strong and wide-ranging vocals are perfect for the genre and are surrounded by edgy electronics that differentiate the group from more commercial R&B artists. It still has a level of professionalism and catchiness that could see them develop further with the influences of James Blake, The Weeknd and Jessie Ware evident in the band’s sound.

‘Something Inside’ is a welcome taste of things to come ahead of the band’s EP release in February where they’ll hopefully bring more of their suave electronic attitude to the table.
