Generator Are Looking for Young People Aged 18-25 to Become the Next Generation of Live Music Promoters
North East music and business support agency Generator is looking for 10 young people aged 18-25 across the North East to become the next generation of live music promoters, as part of their mission to increase opportunity for emerging artists and diversity of both artists and audiences.
This project, known as Create:Live, is made possible by the £2m Youth Music Incubator Fund, designed to help music industry organisations, particularly micro-businesses and SMEs, to harness the skills and creativity of diverse young talent. Generator delivers a variety of funded programmes and offerings that aim to benefit and support emerging artists and music practitioners across the region.
In a new move to support and nurture the wider music community, Generator’s Create:Live programme will provide participants with skills transferrable to other roles including Artist Manager, Tour Manager, Festival Producer, Artist Liaison, and more.
Generator’s CEO, Hannah Matterson, commented, “I’m very excited to be able to offer these opportunities for young people through our Create:Live programme, as funded by Youth Music’s Incubator Fund.”
“There are many more careers available in the music industry outside performing and I wanted Generator to be able to highlight those by giving young people across the North East the chance to train and develop careers as promoters.”
“They form a vital part of the music ecosystem and I’m hoping that this project will help us develop the next generation of promoters, to continue to encourage the variety of music scenes the region has to offer.”
As part of this exciting, hands-on programme, participants will have the opportunity to plan and deliver a show at a North East music venue featuring local artists and other local industry freelancers, with a budget provided. They will also be matched with a relevant mentor, who will guide them through the programme and support the development of their career.
In line with Generator’s Keychange pledge, a minimum of 50% of participants on this programme will be female or gender minorities.
In order to apply, participants must be aged 18-25, be able to commit 6-10 hours per month, be able to demonstrate a good standard of knowledge of North East music and be based in the North East (Tyne and Wear, Northumberland, County Durham and Teesside).
